I knows it’s not officially summer yet, but every year, I swear, as soon as we hit June the sun shines a little brighter and the air feels a little warmer. It feels like summer now. Finally. I never really liked the heat of summer until I spent a winter in Chicago. Guys, I grew up in Wisconsin, but dang, our winters never seemed that harsh. But for a couple months now we get to enjoy sun and swimming and shorts.
I loved May. There’s something about the month of May this is so refreshing. It’s a month that I can enjoy while still looking forward to the months to come. Not to mention May was my one year wedding anniversary (a.k.a. The ultimate cheat meal weekend. I ate so much cake guys, not even funny). So maybe I’m a little biased, but the month of May brought many great things. I ended my Junior year, which means I am almost done with school, forever. Praise the Good Lord. I’ve gotten to spend a bit of time with my younger siblings, who my parents adopted from China this spring. And it has been so refreshing to just relax, figure out what I am gonna do with my summer, and just hang out with friends and family. This past month was also a time of trying so many new things. I’ve been trying out some new products as I continue to keep my health and entire lifestyle in check.
I have been tracking my meals with Lifesum for a couple months as a way to keep myself accountable with eating nutrient dense food, making sure I eat all of the calories I need, and reminding myself to eat fruits and vegetables and drink water. I quickly realized that I really struggled with protein and eating green food. I have tried eating greens and raw vegetables, but my body doesn’t digest them well, so I end up bloated and in pain, so I figured powder might be a good way to go. First, I tried out Vega Protein and Greens powder. They have vanilla (my favorite), chocolate, and berry. This powder is high calorie (which is GREAT) and included 20 grams of protein and TWO servings of vegetables in each scoop. The powder is sweetened with stevia, so I wish there was an unsweetened version, but on the bright side, you don’t need to add additional sweetener. If you add this to a fruit and vegetable smoothie it’s basically a small meal!
Lately, I have been using Amazing Grass Green Superfood powder. The tiny serving scoop contains 4-5 servings of greens. There isn’t much protein in this powder, but because of the small scoop, you can combine this with a different protein powder, or just use other sources of protein. This powder is my favorite right now because it’s almost invisible in my smoothies, no taste or texture.
I also signed up for a trial of Thrive Market, which offers discounted health food shipped right to your door! They included a free jar of Justin’s Almond Butter with my purchase, and I LOVE it. I’ve always been a peanut butter fan, but dang, it’s so good. Plus, they have tons of different flavors to choose from. I’ve been spreading it on Udi’s Gluten Free Millet and Chia toast (if you are gluten free, this is the best bread I have found. I am not exaggerating, it’s amazing) with some fruit and honey spread for breakfast almost everyday. Keep an eye out, in a couple of weeks I’ll be sharing my top 5 favorite breakfasts!
I also get a lot of needed nutrients from supplements, and my favorite lately has been Aloe Vera. These have helped so much with my digestive issues, and make up for all of the fiber I can’t digest. They also have other great benefits like lowering blood sugar levels and it is anti-inflammatory. Talk to your doctor if you also have digestive issues, and use caution when taking these. They definitely keep things movin’ if you know what I mean.
I heard about the app Think Dirty from another blogger, and this app lets you scan your bath, body, and cleaning products and tells you how toxic they are. In researching some of my long time, trusted, supposedly organic products, I realized how many were lying about how clean they were, so I have slowly been swapping things out. I used to use only a cleansing conditioner on my hair, but have recently switched over to Shea Moisture’s Fruit Infused Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo and Creme Rinse. First, it smells absolutely wonderful. Second, it makes my hair feel amazing. I highly recommend Shea Moisture for all your bath and body needs.
These are just a few of the products I tried out in May, and will definitely continue using in the future. I have purchased all of these products myself and am not being compensated for these reviews or blog. I genuinely love these products and want to help you guys out if you’ve been on the hunt for any new shampoo, green powder, protein powder, or whatever!
If any of you have any products you love, comment below and share them with me! I am always on the lookout to try new things.
